Born in 1956, in Kerala, Surendran Nair investigates the realms of myth in a modern-day context and draws his imagery from both Indian and western mythologies. His surreal figurative works using mediums like watercolour, oil, and printmaking combined with the preposterously long titles have made the artist famous. His works are elaborate pictorial fictions wherein he reinvents mythological allegories that are composed of elements drawn from Greek mythology and Indian iconography. Nair completed his Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Fine Arts Trivandrum, Kerala, and his Postgraduate Degree from the M. S. University of Baroda.

Nair’s artworks have been part of several solo and group shows since 1986. Some of the selected shows include, Graphic Prints, Kerela, Ernakulam (1986); Landscapes & other drawings, Vithi, Baroda (1989); The Labyrinth of Eternal Delight, Sydney (1997); Corollary Mythologies, Mumbai (1993); Pernoctation & Early Drawings, Cochin (2009).

An internationally acclaimed artist, Surendran Nair’s works are in several public and private collections in India and abroad. The artist lives and works in Vadodara.
