Rajiv Menon Contemporary is proud to present West Coast, a showcase of Los Angeles-based artists, many of whom are presenting in India for the first time. Exemplifying the gallery's mission to bridge India and the United States, the presentation explores the natural dialogues between LA and Mumbai. Bringing South Asian artists into conversation with artists firmly established in Los Angeles, the booth demonstrates a two-way cultural exchange: South Asian artists entering the global art landscape of Los Angeles, and LA-based artists engaging with India's dynamic art world. Among the participating artists,
Greg Ito is the only one born and raised in Los Angeles; the others have arrived in the city from across the United States and abroad, reflecting the diverse diasporic communities and perspectives that define LA.
The exhibited artists have roots in South, West, and East Asia, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, all effortlessly speaking to the cultural conversations emerging in the Indian art landscape. Across cultural boundaries, artists Shyama Golden and Jonny Negron explore mythologies and spirituality. Suchitra Mattai and Greg Ito each address histories of migration and memory, forging unexpected connections across different diasporas; Yan Xinyue situates similar themes in the present, addressing urbanization and displacement. Amir Fallah and Maya Seas exemplify the Hollywood spirit of storytelling, finding a welcome new home in Mumbai's film-forward culture.
Visually, the booth offers compositional and textural variety, mirroring the distinct cultural perspectives and visual languages of the artists. At the heart of the presentation is an exchange between two sprawling cities. The ubiquity of the film industry in both Los Angeles and Mumbai shapes the character of each city, fostering a spirit of creative experimentation, reinvention, and migration.
Rajiv Menon Contemporary’s debut presentation at Art Mumbai 2026 speaks to the gallery’s wider mission to facilitate conversation between the United States and South Asia. By introducing a new cohort of Angeleno artists in India for the first time, the booth celebrates Mumbai's status as a global art hub.
