FIRST TIME EXHIBITOR RAJIV MENON CONTEMPORARY

BRINGS “I-POP” TO UNTITLED ART FAIR

“I-POP” will include a booth and panel at the Fair; Feature On-Site Artists Tarini Sethi, Viraj Khanna and Renowned Indian Fashion Designer Anamika Khanna

December 3-8, Miami Beach, Florida:  Rajiv Menon Contemporary– a new L.A. based gallery dedicated to bringing contemporary South Asian and diasporic art to the United States –will bring “I-POP” (Indian Pop Culture) to the Untitled Art Fair, in line with this year’s fair theme “East Meets West” and as part of the fair’s Nest Sector.

While East Asian aesthetics have historically defined Asian pop culture as we understand it, “I-POP” will explore the recent proliferation and influence of India’s textiles, embroidery, and craftmanship in today’s colliding art and fashion worlds–particularly at a time when new and established creatives in India and the diaspora at large are driving global attention and resonance.

Market interest in South Asian contemporary art has been on the rise since the pandemic with steady acquisitions and permanent gallery showings from leading U.S. institutions including the Guggenheim and the MOMA, in addition to growing interest from individual collectors of South Asian descent,  particularly in the United States, looking to patronize contemporary works from the region. The sale of recent works, including the historical sale of “The Story Teller” by  South Asian artist Amrita Sher-Gil  last year has also helped to drive new commercial attention from the global art world to South Asian modern and contemporary art, and among more established collectors looking to diversify and fortify their future art investments.
