In the work of Delhi-based artist Tarini Sethi, the body becomes a site of boundless transformation. Drawing from India’s expansive art-historical canon—from miniature painting to tribal traditions—Sethi constructs a universe of her own making populated by hybrid bodies freed from categorical constraints. Sethi's figures reflect utopian worlds where bodily structures are malleable and fluid, transcending boundaries between erotic and abject, human and non human, possible and impossible. Inspired by sacred iconography, particularly multi-limbed deities and their animal counterparts, she envisions evolutionary futures shaped by forms unbound by fixed notions of identity, biology, or form itself.
Tarini Sethi (b 1987, India lives and works in New Delhi, India. She received her BFA in drawing from Pratt Institute in 2014.
